New Year Challenges

Happy New Years Eve

I don’t have any big plans tonight. Well let me rephrase that, I have plans to enjoy a romantic dinner in San Francisco with my boyfriend tonight. No big parties, or trips out of town, I’m keeping it simple, low key and under cover. 

I had a blast in DC for Christmas. The weather wasn’t too bad, and I always have a great time when my family is involved.

I flew to Phoenix Arizona early Friday morning. I’ve been flying a lot, so my body clock is all messed up. As soon as I arrived I went shopping for some clothes better suited for 70 degree weather. This weekend was filled with exploring Scottsdale Arizona, eating amazing food, and relaxing. 


We came back to The Bay Area yesterday and I was so tired I slept until 1pm. If anyone knows me I usually have a hard time sleeping past 9am. I was beat.

I’m finally getting back on track, and I just realized I’ll be flying to Wisconsin on Saturday. This should be a fast trip, but I’m not looking forward to the below zero temperate that I know is coming. I have to buy a thick winter coat to battle the midwest winter elements.

All that said, I’ve noticed a lot of weight loss challenges/ New Years resolutions posted on different blogs, Facebook and Instagram. Because I found so many different challenges I figure I would share my top 3 with you, instead of created a weightloss challenge of my own. 

I’m not really into the “I have to loose weight this year” New Years Resolution. I only believe in making small lifestyle changes to reach your goals. That way your changes will stick instead of gaining weight after a diet, you change your eating habits and the way you look at food long term. That doesn’t mean that these challenges don’t work, or that you shouldn’t partake in the fun. Sometimes you need a little jump start. I plan on using these challenges/programs throughout the year to help me stay on track when I get tired of my regular routines.

My boyfriend has been doing meatless Mondays for the last 6 months. He lost about 20 pounds and he actually looks forward to not consuming meat for an entire day. Since I’m already meatless this challenge isn’t really a challenge for me. But I still support it!

Travel Day = Cheat Day, Realistic Thanksgiving Eating Tips

 

Today is the one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Guess where I am?

At the airport baby!

Partaking in the delays, lines, attitudes, and horrible east coast weather.


I really don’t mind days like this. I love adventures, I love meeting new people and I love to travel, I’m 3 for 3 right now. The weird thing is I’m flying from Washington DC to Cleveland Ohio, it should be an hour and a half flight, but what it should be and what it is doesn’t matchup at all.


There was a mechanical plane delay in DC which made me miss my connecting flight in Philadelphia. When I checked in with the flight desk I was told my connecting flight in Philadelphia was already canceled, and I was rebooked on a flight at 6:15pm. That turned a 3 hour travel day into a 7 hour travel day. Good thing I’m a positive person. I giggled when she told me, I think the lady was ready for me to go bat shit crazy on her; but that’s not my style. Instead I’m spending my extra time reading, studying, blogging and eating.


I know thanksgiving is tomorrow, but I getting started today. It’s nearly impossible for me to eat healthy on travel days. Especially when I’m traveling alone, no one is here to judge me or keep me in line. So far I’m keeping it mild, but that could change any minute.


I started my day off with my regular unsweetened, unflavored oatmeal with flaxseeds. As soon as I arrived at the airport I ordered a classic breakfast that consisted of eggs, potatoes, toast (of course I declined the meat product that usually comes with the meal). I happily devoured the scrambled eggs and avoided the over fried tasteless potatoes, and soggy toast. To finish off my eating adventure I ate half of a mini Cinnabon. I used to love Cinnabon, but this one was slightly disappointing. I wasn’t surprised, food that I used to go crazy for doesn’t really satisfy me anymore.


As soon as we landed in Philadelphia, 2 hours behind schedule, I promptly found a restaurant that I could get comfortable and waste a few hours. The plan is to eat enough to fill me for the rest of the night, since I’m arriving in Ohio so late, and I know it will be almost impossible to find a salad that my body will most defiantly be craving. The first round was a yummy chopped salad with arugula, apples, toasted pumpkin seeds and feta cheese, dressing on the side, of course with a nice big mug of hot chocolate.

All in all my travel day has been pretty cool. I love blogging and it’s pretty time consuming, so I get to waste another hour and a half.

Dark meat is ok

dark meat has slightly more calories than white meat, but it also has more vitamins and minerals. Cut the calories by avoiding the skin… If you can

Go easy on the gravy

Roasted turkey is a smart bet for the holidays, just don’t get carried away with the gravy. It’ll cost you about 20 calories per ounce. OUCH

High-Cal Calorie Casserole Alert

The base of these casseroles contains vitamin packed green beans that are smothered with cheese, cream and butter. Cut 50 calories by avoiding those yummy fried onions

Take control of the Mac and cheese

It’s hard to avoid this gooey dish, but with several types of cheese, milk, and sometimes breadcrumbs, it’s a complete diet fail. If you do indulge just take a small spoonful

Eat breakfast

Thanksgiving dinner is usually eaten in the afternoon, it’s common to forget about breakfast since the threat of a massive meal is a sure thing. To battle the urge to fill your thanksgiving plate over and over again, make sure to eat breakfast.

* I suggest oatmeal since it expands in your stomach and keeps you fuller longer

All in all tomorrow is turkey day, you will probably over endulge and that’s ok. This is the one day out of the year where that is ok. We wait for this day all year. Enjoy the day, eat to your hearts content, and be ready to sweat it off in the next few days.

I’m heading off to London next week, I’m on a quest to find fun, new, creative, fitness classes to blog about. I’ve been in contact with the concierge at our hotel and they have directed me towards the closes gyms in the area. These gyms look super intense and classy.

Gym boxes classes discrptions were not as detailed as I wanted them to be, but this youtube video tells me everything I need to know.
I know all of these fitness classes will keep me slimed and toned while traveling. I can’t wait to try all these new classes and see how they do it in London. The gym sence looks a lot different from the US gym sence.

Back to the grind

What a trip. I enjoyed myself, and I’m still feeling it. My voice is gone, last night was the first night since Thursday that I got a good night sleep.
I loved Caribana, can’t even find enough words to express it. We are defiantly going back next year.

All of my hard work paid off. My 2-3 hour workouts 5-6 days a week, allowed me to wear whatever I wanted. No stomach, no giggly thighs, no extra flab, I was tight and taunt just like I wanted. I got to wear my comic book dress again; it was a hit with all the men and some of the women. Everyone else just stared at me and gave me dirty looks, which means I’m was doing something right. A lady walked up to me and asked me how I had the audacity to wear a black and white dress, since it was a white party, I just laughed in her face, I love haters.

 
We attended the actual parade on Saturday, which was inspiring, and exhausting at the same time. I found myself dancing on fences, shaking my booty, taking pictures with a lot of people, and “getting it in.” It couldn’t have gone better. I flirted myself, and 4 of my friends, into the parade, and spent most of my time dancing with strangers and posing for pictures. Next year I plan on purchasing a custom and really participating in the parade, instead of sneaking and dancing.
 

After the parade my sister and I hit up the Def jam party, which also happened LeBron James Bachelors party. I didn’t find that out until today. I had a great time dancing,  singing, and meeting people from all over the world.

The last two days have been a blur to me. I took us 12 hours to get back to Baltimore, once in Baltimore we then drove another hour to my Dads house in Maryland. Since it was our last few hours my sister and I decided to stay up and hangout with our dad. Finally I crawled into bed at 1pmonly to get up at 3:30pm to get ready for my 8pm flight. With one layover in Phoenix I finally made it home, but my adventures wasn’t over yet.

I had no ride from the airport, I jumped in a cab and around $75 later I was at home exhausted but pretty happy with the way everything turned out.

To bad I can’t sleep all day. I only have 5 days to move all of our belongings into our new house.

Let the adventure begin

I’ve been talking about this trip so much, I’m finding it hard to wrap my head around the fact that is finally here!! 
I’m in Maryland, tomorrow we are going to Baltimore, then we are heading to Toranto Canada.

Last year my boyfriend took my around the world, we spent 3 months traveling to 7 different countries. 

Italy ➡ France ➡ Monaco ➡ Germany ➡ Austria ➡ Greece ➡ Japan
It was the best time of my life.  Ever since last summer I’ve been dying to get another stamp on my passport. When my sister found this Caribana trip it felt like a sign from God. Can’t wait to leave my home land, exchange money, experience new sights, sounds,and favor combinations. 

Icing on the cake:
This will by my Mother and Sisters first time out of the Country, and my first time out of the country without the boyfriend.
In October my boyfriend and I are traveling to England ➡ Scottland ➡ Ireland.  
I’m really considering starting a travel blog. Not only do I travel outside of the country numourous times a year, I also travel all over the United States during the winter . 
Starting a travel blog feels like the  next logical step in my blogging journey. There are a few questions I must tackle before becoming a travel blogger. 
⛔ How often should I blog? Should I only blog when I travel?
⛔ Should I include food reviews? Letseatsf.blogspot.com is currently in the works
⛔ How do I grow my following? Where should I advertise
⛔ Should the blog be facts about the destination or should I share my everyday adventure
By looking at the top travel blogs I should be able to answer all of these questions 
Going to work all those questions out over the vacation. Get ready for some travel blogging, it’s time to get my feet wet and expand my horizons.

Today is a travel day

Hello friends

Today is a travel day,  caught a red eye out of San Francisco at 12:50am, connecting in Philly my final destination is Baltimore. 

Once in Baltimore I will be a salve to public transportation. 
 bus ➕ subway ride ➕ cab ride = home
It should take me about a few hours to get to my Dads house in Oxen Hill, Maryland.  Visiting Maryland is like going home, lots of family, lots of things to catch up on, lots of people that want to spend tome with me. As much as I absolutely adore my family, after a 6 hour red eye flight I’m in no mood to make small talk, or go out to lunch. Public transportation isn’t glamours but it will give me time to relax and not expelled extra energy. 
The Plan was to on sleep on the pane, but it wasn’t in the cards, ended up  studying instead, which is always something to be proud of.  Brought an informative book to keep my mind occupied, it did its job. 
New Plan: get home ASAP and take a much needed nap. The bed is calling my name.

I finally made it, safe and sound.
